Nomenclature
Queer
Originally used as a slur the modern liberation movement has reclaimed it as an umbrella term like LGBTQ2S+ but is intended to encompass more gender identities as well as sexual ones.
LGBTQ2S+
There are many variations including many different letters but is typically used to encompass various identities on the sexual and gender spectrums.
Lesbian
Mostly used to describe women who love other women.Gay
Mostly used to describe men who love other men.
Bisexual
Mostly used to describe people who love both those who are of the same gender identity as themselves as well as other gender identities.
Transgender
Mostly used to describe someone who identifies as a gender that does match their birth sex.
Transvestite
A word used in the past to encompass everyone who falls in an expression of gender identity that does not line up with modern societies expectations. Isn't a very nice word and is not used now but is used in pre-2000s media.
Two-Spirit
Typically used by first nations members as an umbrella term for those that fall outside modern societal expectations of gender and sexuality.
Asexual
Mostly used to describe someone who does not feel sexual attraction or a desire for sex.
Aromantic
Mostly used to describe someone who does not feel the attraction of romantic bonding.
Gender non-conforming
Mostly used to describe someone who does not fall within modern societal expectations of gender.
Gender Non-binary
Mostly used to describe someone who does not fall within modern western societies gender binaries.
Drag Queen
Mostly used to describe a masculine-presenting person who dresses femininely for entertainment purposes.
Drag King
Mostly used to describe a feminine-presenting person who dresses masculinely for entertainment purposes.
Queen
A term often used to describe a queer man.
Pansexual
Mostly used to describe someone who loves others regardless of gender.
Demisexual
Mostly used to describe someone who does not feel sexual attraction to another until an emotional bond is formed.
TERF
Stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. Someone who supports the Queer liberation movement in reference to sexuality but does not like anyone who falls outside of modern western societal expectations of gender.
Truscum
Someone who believes that you can only be transgender if you experience dysphoria and most often will say you're not really transgender if you do not transition medically.
Homophobic
Someone who does not like anyone whos sexuality falls outside of modern societal expectation.
Transphobic
Someone who does not like anyone whos gender identity falls outside of modern societal expectation.
Bricolage
The act of claiming a person, thing, word or symbol to represent something that either is not what it originally represented or did not represent something to begin with.
